STATUTE OF INTERNATIONAL PUPPET-THEATRE FESTIVAL FOR ADULTS “PIERROT”
International puppet theatre festival for adults “PIERROT” was created in 2000 under the initiative of Non-profit organization “PIERROT. The festival is a new, unconventional European stage of puppet theatre art, dedicated to new and untypical forms: puppet theatre for adults. The festival is biannual and it’s conducted from 24 till 29 September under the patronage of the District Governor of District Stara Zagora. Organizers of the festival are State Puppet Theatre – Stara Zagora, Municipality of Stara Zagora, Non-profit organization “PIERROT”, National Center for theatre, Ministry of culture, Bulgarian Center of UNIMA. International Puppet Theatre Festival for Adults “PIERROT” organizes as additional events theoretical seminars, workshops, art market, exhibitions, street art.
OBJECTIVES: - Development and popularization of the professional puppet theatre art - Recognizing the culture as an important element of the social integration process and the citizenship. - Transforming the theatre into a different future, into a bridge, crossing borders and establishing friendship and understanding between nations with different cultures and traditions. - Establishing the foundations of a long term network of artistic and educational exchange and co-operation between the puppeteers from all the continents. - Encouraging the creativity and the international dissemination of cultural values, the movement of creators, cultural figures and their works, emphasizing the cultural diversity and the development of new forms of cultural expression.
REGULATIONS:
The organizers of International Puppet Theatre Festival for Adults “PIERROT” are making a call for selection of professional puppeteers, working in the filed of the puppet theatre for adults. The festival’s manager appoints a Selection Commission to estimate the proposals. Participants in the festival “PIERROT” are professional Bulgarian and foreign companies. They have to present performances, created not earlier than 3 years before the current festival’s edition. The festival is organized in two sections: а/ puppet theatre for adults b/ experimental and new forms in the puppet theatre for adults All the participants can apply with two performances. If so, one of the performances should be in section b/ experimental and new forms in the puppet theatre for adults. The applicants are addressing their proposals in written form, enclosing the filled application form, video record, short description of the performance, 6 photos, program, poster, reviews, letters of recommendations, press dossier, and all the technical details for the performance/s to the State Puppet Theatre – Stara Zagora’s address. All accommodation and food expenses will be covered by the festival’s organizers. The festival’s manager signs a contract with the companies, selected for participation in the competition program and pays from the festival’s budget a fee for the performances against the relevant financial document, issued by the company. The festival “PIERROT” is located in Bulgaria. The number of the played performances and the amount of the fee are specified in the correspondent contracts with the companies, according to the festival’s financial capacity. The participating companies cover their travel expenses on their own.
AWARDS AND HONOURS
The festival “PIERROT” is based on competitive principle. The festival’s manager appoints an international jury of well-known theatre experts: authors, directors, composers, stage designers and actors to estimate the performances in the competition program.
The following awards will be bestowed: • Award for best performance - bronze statuette “PIERROT” made by the sculptor Emil Ivanov • Award for “experimental and new forms” – bas relief “PIERROT” • Award for directing – bas relief “PIERROT” • Award for stage design - bas relief “PIERROT” • Award for music - bas relief “PIERROT” • Award for man’s part - bas relief “PIERROT” • Award for woman’s part - bas relief “PIERROT”
